Students learn best when feeling accepted and supported exactly as they are. My students are eager to understand the dynamics of racial, economic, and ethnic ideologies that keep educational disparities in place. They are smart, multicultural, multilingual, and have the willpower shared by the great leaders that founded our country and inspired our generation. Our diverse school environment raises challenges and opportunities for overcoming inequities. Glenn Singleton's book "Courageous Conversations About Race" will allow my students to learn to have civil conversations about all diversities, and spread their knowledge to our school and the entire community. In times when conversations about race are taboo in our society, educators must empower youth to create a more equitable and just world.
