Scoot Our Way to a New Year
Funded Feb 23, 2022I can't thank you enough for your kind donations. Being a physical Education teacher in a pandemic has been challenging. My 3rd graders didn't even get to use scooters yet. And they're now too big for the smaller ones. So having these big scooters will for sure put a smile on their faces!! As well as mine =)”

Help My Kids Be Active and Safe!
Funded Sep 17, 2020Coming into this year I had high hopes about what I could do with my students. I knew that class sizes would drastically be less and thought it would be a good opportunity to do something a little different with them that we could do while spaced out in the gym or in their classroom. But I was wrong.
I was SO excited to get these tennis balls. A week after we got the tennis balls we had to close because of cases in our building, we are a community building of 3 schools. We all share the gym so rhe gym was out of question for now. In total we had closed 4 times for about 10-12 days each time. I then also was not here everyday and worked from home on certain days.
So everything I planned for this year and the tennis balls, didn't go as planned. The Mayor of NYC just said that in the fall students will be back full-time. I am hopeful that we can use the tennis balls then and each kid can have their own!”

Funded Sep 30, 2020This last year and a half have been the hardest teaching journey yet. Last year we were "stuck" inside with no way of knowing if we or our students and families would be safe.
When coming back last September I thought things would be a little more normal. But I was wrong. I was excited to get equipment donated for our running team.
The agility ladder, medicine ball, would have been so great to aid our students in their running and succeeding. The bags to hold their uniforms in because we provide them and as of right now carried them in 2 drawstring bags.
Unfortunately this year did not go as planned and we did not get to use any of the donated equipment. I'm hoping with what the Mayor said recently that school will be full-time again in the fall that the equipment will finally come out of the bags and be used!”

Funded Dec 17, 2020Unfortunately this year has been crazy. Everything you were able to donate to us has not been put to use yet. I work in NYC where the gym is shared with 2 other schools. So as a community building we have decided not to use the gym this past year.
Therefore everything has stayed brand new in the bags. I am so looking forward to hopefully next year when, according to the Mayor we will be back to full-time learning in the Fall! Which I am counting down the days!
I can not say thank you enough for everything you donated to us! I can not wait to show you all the fun and learning we will be doing!”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Technology is the way of the world. You use it at home, in a car, on the bus, in an airplane etc, but many people don't know how much of an impact technology has on not only a classroom but the gym as well.
In the gym we do not have a technology board where i can show videos or play music from there, so speakers are the next best thing. In physical Education in New York I have to test the children on something called the PACER test (i'm sure you may even remember it as the beep test). in order to do so i need something that can play the video loud enough so the students can hear when to go and when to stop. That's what makes the speakers so perfect- they can clearly hear the video from anywhere in the gym and never have to question it. I not only love this but the students do too because they don't have to rely on being close to hear it. they know they can continue doing their test and not worry about messing up because they can not hear the cues.
Also I use the speakers with my iPad- i have connected them together and use them for start and stop signals. the students know when the music is on they should be doing the activity and when the music stops they should be frozen waiting for the next instructions. this makes it easy when i have a class of 40+ students and need all their attention quickly. all the students have warmed up VERY quickly with the speakers, but then again todays world is technology so they probably know more about it then i do!”

Funded Nov 13, 2018I can not thank you enough. Teaching in the Bronx you learn about what the students can and can not do, sports wise. There are not many fields so playing soccer, lacrosse, baseball/softball, and football at a young age is not feasible sometimes because they can't walk to the field. Where as you can play basketball at almost any park- or even get a basketball hoop for the house!
Now i'm sure you looked at the title and said "how could basketballs and children be alike?!" and i don't blame you! Basketballs come in all different sizes for the age the students are, and just like basketballs children come in all DIFFERENT shapes and sizes as well. There is a basketball out there for a specific student- it is on the teachers and coaches to find that basketball.
Some students need more visual so a basketball with hand prints on it showing where to put their hands really helps them. Sometimes students need a softer ball to start out with so they are not scared of the ball at first. Others are maybe very skilled so i may have them practice with a smaller ball to get some tricks down or the fundamental skills down at a faster rate.
All the different balls that were given to us are being used every time we have practice- which is usually once a week or sometimes before school some students come to practice. without you this would NOT be possible!!”

Funded Apr 30, 2018This project couldn't have come at a better time. I was starting an after-school basketball program for upper grades and well we needed some equipment. the basketballs I had originally ordered were for classes and then some were used to recess outside. In the program I had about 40-45 students in it- now of course not everyone could have a basketball but I wanted enough so at least every 4 or 5 students could share a basketball. What you have done for not just the program but for the whole community has really given the children an opportunity to really excel at whatever they want in life. I had the principal of the school come up to me and say "ms.white we were watching students from your basketball program really start to dribble outside when they used to just run with the ball" and something as simple as that lite up my face and knew what I did and started was only the start and beginning!
So again I can not THANK YOU enough for the generous donation for my team, my school, my community and really me!”

Funded Mar 28, 2018I just wanted to say that since you have donated to my project my physical education classes have flourished! Not only do we have equipment we use on a daily basis with every class i have i also now have enough equipment so that EVERY student is participating. not sitting out because i don't have enough for everyone, or waiting their turn.
When my students first saw the scooters- they weren't really sure what they were. I told them we were getting scooters but they had in mind a "Razor scooter" not as in one that you sit on. But when i rolled them out into the gym they all got SO excited and i couldn't calm them down for a solid 2 minutes. and the look on their faces when i brought out the 20FOOT parachute was also one i will always remember. a lot of students said they had done parachute in PRE-K in a small hallway but never this size or in the gym, so already that made me so excited and then i played popcorn with the parachute and the yarn-balls and there were smiles for days from Kindergartners to 5th graders.
In two weeks i am bringing the parachute back out for Kindergarten through 2nd grade and then again in February for 3rd through 5th graders. we will be doing loco-motor movements with the parachute (walking, hopping, running, skipping etc). we will be doing popcorn again with the yarnballs as well as many more fun activities with other equipment!
I can not thank you enough!!”
