  • We Are Authors!

    Funded Nov 28, 2018

I cannot begin to thank you enough for your wonderful generosity. All of my students were enthusiastic and thrilled to know that we were receiving many items that we would need to flourish as writers in the classroom.

For example, the ink was so helpful to have because our laser printer had run out of ink for several months. So when the shipment arrived, we were immediately able to print the beautiful color pictures and projects that my students had previously typed, many of which students selected to include in their portfolios. Also, the laminating machine was a great asset to our classroom because it helped me laminate student work that students selected to post in our classroom and preserve its integrity. Additionally, the book binding machine and combs were very useful because we were able to bind books that students created that gave them a very professional look.

Your donation has given my students more resources than you can imagine. I am very grateful for your thoughtfulness and your kindness because all of my students will benefit through your support. I deeply appreciate the donation you made to my classroom to help my students grow as writers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Francia

  • Listening and Learning

    Funded Sep 28, 2018

It is with a tremendous amount of gratitude that I write to you to express my appreciation for your donation to my classroom. The Bose Bluetooth Speaker has been such an important addition that has allowed all of my students to listen and learn in my classroom.

Previous to your donation, my students could not hear from my computer's speaker, especially having so many students, as I have the biggest class at my school. It was impossible for all of them to listen and learn from the educational videos that I had planned to show to supplement my lessons. I had given up on the idea of playing any videos, until the Amazon box arrived.

My students were so thrilled to know that through your generosity, they would now be able to enjoy and learn about every content area. Ever since its arrival, my students have enjoyed and deepened their learning by watching and listening to videos about mathematics, earthquakes, and Native Americans of California, to name a few. Furthermore, my students relish on the fact that we can take the speaker anywhere with the carrying case, like the auditorium and playground, and still enjoy the same quality sound since it is easily portable. For example, for our Day of the Dead celebration, my students performed their skeleton dance to other grade levels with the use of this speaker.

The speaker has definitely given my students the joy of learning they deserve, all through your support in giving my students this technology. The speaker has created an enthusiasm and confidence that they too, can access the sound, as well as the curriculum. Now, all of my students can enjoy the same volume and quality of sound, from any place in my classroom, as well as anywhere at our school. Hence, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for giving my students access to the technology that allows all of them to listen and learn on a daily basis.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Francia

  • Leaving an Imprint in Students' Lives: Printing in the Making

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I am deeply touched by your extreme generosity in funding my Leaving an Imprint in Students' Lives: Printing in the Making project. The laser color printer that you donated has helped my students every single day. It has completely changed the learning in my classroom. I use the color printer to print images that are related to our units of inquiry that my students can use to acquire vocabulary, ask questions, and make their presentations come alive.

With the numerous budget cuts in my district, printing and making color copies was a challenge at my school. Your generous contribution has allowed my students to access language and a better understanding of the curricular areas. For example, some of my students printed images of fruits and vegetables along with the causes and effects of eating healthy and unhealthy for our school and city health fair presentations. The colorful and vibrant pictures attracted visitors and helped my students convey the message of leading a healthier lifestyle.

Furthermore, when my students were learning about the changes in our earth for the How the World Works unit, viewing vivid pictures about earthquakes, volcanoes, and erosion allowed them to draw on their personal experiences, ask questions, and make predictions, which deepened their curiosity as well as helped them further explore the inquiry process. My students now have authentic experiences in the classroom that afford them new opportunities to gain new knowledge.

It is with much appreciation that I write this letter thanking you for your contribution in my students' educations. You have made a great impact in my classroom and left an imprint in their lives!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Francia

My students currently spend a limited amount of time on the school computer lab and tablets that rotate through our classroom only once a week as well as share with 500 students. This time does not afford them the opportunity to fully expand their research on their inquiries, much less type any reports for their presentations, thus limiting their opportunity to gain skills and knowledge. My third graders hence need five HP ChromeBooks in the classroom as a center to independently research about their topics of inquiry, such as their local native american community, the life cycles of animals, and natural hazards that albeit inevitable, they can research solutions to reduce their impact. They also need access to ChromeBooks to develop competency in using a keyboard and typing as they publish their writing from the knowledge they have gathered throughout their research. For most of my students, this classroom opportunity will be the only time they will have to access this type of technology and skill development, skills that are imperative and my students need for the 21st century. They also need a Bose speaker to share with their classmates the digital products they have created and the research they have obtained, all pertinent to their learning. Knowledgeable, inquirers, and communicators are only some of the attributes that my students strive to be. At our school, students learn through six units of inquiry and their collective questioning helps them develop their overall conceptual understanding. However, it is a challenge when my students have limited access to the tools that will make their understanding a reality. Your support is greatly appreciated in helping my students obtain the skills they need for the 21st century.
