  • Build the Physics Base for Stem

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Thanks to the donations to this project, my students have been experiencing physics in a dynamic way with hands-on activities that link to real-world problems and solutions.

Having the access to instructional resources from other teachers has helped me increase the experiences in the classroom from a more varied perspective giving me the time to help my students and giving them faster feedback. This has had a positive reaction from my students since they enjoy the challenges and having the material to complete them.

Once again, I give my greatest appreciation to those that supported this effort.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alfaro Martinez

  • STEM in Distance Learning

    Funded Jan 19, 2021

Thanks to your contributions, my students have been able to perform small at-home experiments and scientific models that will help them conceptualice better what they have learn in class.

These materials also show them that science is not limited to a lab, but that it can be all around us if we look closer. With these packages, they can also show other members in their household how science can be fun and interesting. Who knows, maybe they inspire their younger siblings, and hopefully everyone else too.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alfaro Martinez

  • STEM at Home for Everybody!

    Funded Sep 30, 2020

Many of my students have limited resources and the simplest materials can be a burden to their economies. Also, the variety of materials that they have available at home for experimenting can make some activities challenging to plan for. Having a small but very valuable set of materials that we all have will make my life easier and their learning better.

My biology students will be able to perform simple but powerful experiments using the ph paper. My physics students will be able to build simple artifacts to explore motion and sound. And all of my students will be able to keep their notes and exercises organized using post-its.

Thank you again for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alfaro Martinez

  • Engineers Driving the Future with Hydrogen

    Funded Nov 10, 2019

Thank you for helping my students to get the tools they needed to complete their project. The kids built a remote controlled, hybrid battery-hydrogen fueled car. This type of projects introduce the kids to the world of engineering and open the door to career pathways for them. And not only that, the paint you helped to provide allowed the students to give their car their unique look. This promotes their creativity and the feeling of community of creators.

The tools you helped to facilitate also allow them to learn how to work use them in different situations.

Finally, something that my students enjoyed a lot to have again, was their beloved drill (which they had lost due to some misfortune).”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alfaro Martinez

  • Engineers Driving the Future

    Funded Oct 29, 2018

The material you provided allowed us not just to compete, but to classify to the finals of the competition. Though this was the most exciting part for the students, what they learned while building the car was the most powerful experience they had. The process of learning how to use the new tools gave them more than just the skill of using them. They learned how to keep their materials organized and clean. They learned how to use different sources to find out how to use the tools. They had to research, read, and ask in order to be able to use the tools.

The impact of this project goes beyond this competition. This whole experience you helped with will stay with these kids for the rest of their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alfaro Martinez

  • Empowered and Critical Digital Citizens!

    Funded Aug 23, 2018

Technology is one of the main drivers of current society. This is why it is very important to integrate it to the science class and let the students learn from and about it.

By having the resources to access digital information, my students can become better decision makers. They are learning how to interact respectfully and productively with other digital users. The new skills that they are acquiring will not only allow them to access the science content easier, but also be better prepared for the real world by the time they graduate.

I want you to know that your contribution is changing not only the future of these kids' lives, but also the people around them. Because they will be able to thrive and and impact their community in a similar way you have done with this project.”

    With gratitude,

We are in an era when information is available everywhere we go. We are all in constant bombardment of data that may or may not be reliable and supported. This is why it is important to know how to use all this information effectively. One of my goals as a science teacher is to guide my students through the process of analyzing and being critical of the information they receive everyday from different sources. This a reason why I want my students to have access to tools that will open the door to that information, in this case the tablets. For example, one of the big discussion topics in the media is about climate change. Using the tablets, I can guide my students to analyze different articles and pieces of information that they find in order to evaluate their reliability. Once we find pieces of information that meet the academic standards, we can start a discussion using the evidence gathered, digital simulations, and other electronic tools to support the students claims. Finally, the students can practice their presentation abilities by constructing a slideshow that summarizes their claims, findings, and conclusions. Learning to use the information in this way may allow my students to make better decisions in their adult life and defend their points of view using reliable information and strong arguments.
