Integration of sensory materials allows students to focus on their learning and relieve stress and anxiety that is common in the school setting. Currently my students are limited in their means of sensory relief, with only toys that are loud, distracting, or require more than one friend to use. If they cannot get their sensory fix in the classroom, we must venture to another teacher's room. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a chance to satiate their sensory needs. They almost always make good choices about what they need to keep them focused and engaged. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given sensory breaks. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them appropriate sensory options to make more effective learning choices. The small hand and desk fidgets will help students keep their hands to themselves during group activities. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need something in their hands. They can also be used a a reward! The larger fidgets will allow for a chance to take a brain break and get their sensory input as well. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
