These students have been doing remote learning since the start of COVID-19 school closures in March. They are special needs kids with Autism, Down Syndrome and learning/ developmental disabilities. Many of these students did not have home materials that were essential for their remote related service sessions. They lacked resources for hand and upper strengthening, motor coordination skills and finger dexterity. Lack of strengthening in these areas impact their ability to write legibly, hold pencils for extended periods of time, feed themselves with utensils in a coordinated manner, button/zip/lace for basic dressing skills. These materials, sent as packets to the students homes, will be used to set up fun and creative remote learning sessions: *Clothespins will be used for hand strengthening and coordination *Beaded bracelets will be made as craft projects for development of grasp and coordination- which will in turn help with feeding and dressing skills * Googley eyes, feathers and the craft kits will be made as part of Art projects to encourage writing development, creativity, bilateral hand use and use of school supplies such as scissors and glue *Chalk board decals will encourage creative forms of writing and a vertical surface for the students to use to encourage dynamic wrist mobility, shoulder strengthening, with the broken chalk as a means to promote 3 point grasp * Playdoh will be used for modeling letters of the alphabet so that the students learn visual memory and tactile feedback. The playdoh will also cater to their sensory needs *Therabands will be incorporated into daily exercise routines for strengthening of shoulders, hands, wrist and their core. They will also get the sensory feedback (proprioceptive input) that they need from the activities that we engage in, set to their favorite music. Thank you for all your support and for making a difference!
