  • Tiny Hands, Big Minds!

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Your donations have given our students activities and social opportunities that they desperately needed after the pandemic! At choice time, our students LOVE to play "Marble Run", create with Play Doh, and build! It is something they look forward to every week. It has improved student behaviors and encouraged positive social interactions. These activities have also allowed our math centers to become more engaging.

Thank you for keeping young minds engaged and excited at school! Our students are thankful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • Readers and Leaders

    Funded Jan 25, 2021

I can't thank you enough for giving my students access to hands on materials, especially books. As we kicked off our "Reading Like Experts" non-fiction reading unit and "Non-Fiction Chapter Book" writing unit, my students were able to each get a handful of non fiction books right at their reading level! My first graders are learning how to read non-fiction books like "experts" and how to write just like a non fiction author. They are excited to read their books, especially books about animals!

Reading in my virtual classroom takes place daily on and off screen. Whether it's a read aloud or shared reading, I read to my students daily. My students read for 15-20 minutes independently during our reading block. They also read in breakout rooms on Zoom with a partner! Finally, we also read together in small groups. My students feel so proud when they can read one of their books from their "learn at home" baggie to me!

My students are all excited for their new books. Aria, a Level J reader, is thrilled to read about Michelle Obama after Black History Month. Ethan is elated to read about dinosaurs!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • Hands On and Inspired at Home!

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you for helping me to bridge the divide during this time of remote learning with my young learners! Thanks to you, my students are able to bring their writing to life with their flair pens and crayons! These materials went into their "learn at home baggies" that their families picked up at the school along with their dry erase markers for math and their books for reading! The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card allowed me to find create interactive activities to use for large and small group instruction for all subject areas as well as Black History Month, Valentines Day, and the 100th Day of School!

The look on their faces when they have their baggies on camera for the first time is priceless. I always have them hold it up as soon as they have it and they are so excited to unpack it and see what is inside.

I continue to encourage my students to explore their books, become "experts" and think about creative ways to use their supplies. As they learn and grow, they are encouraged to make decisions and choices about their own learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • Virtual First Grade: Home Away From Home

    Funded Sep 14, 2020

Thank you for helping me to make my virtual classroom space our "home away from home". My basement corner has been transformed from dark, empty, and useless to colorful and full of excitement and purpose. Every year, I venture to decorate my classroom with hope and joy, and you helped me to continue this at home. The large whiteboard serves as a perfect backdrop for me to post anchor charts, books, inspirational messages, and more. The birthday chart and magnets add personal touches. The ink, card stock, and paper has allowed me to print tons of resources to distribute to my students via mail or pickup at our school. I could not be any more grateful for what you've done for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • Best Year Ever: 1st Grade 2020-2021!!

    Funded Aug 7, 2020

My first graders and I could not be any more appreciative for the impact these donations have made. We are using them all in creative ways since the start of our virtual school year together. The bright and colorful classroom items helped me to set up the perfect virtual space for my young learners. One of the most impactful resources donated were the diverse read aloud books. After reading one of these stories, one of my students was inspired to dress up like their favorite character on character day! The labels, folders, dry erase wipe off boards, and guided readers helped me to create each of them their own learn at home baggie! Each child was thrilled to get their own personalized materials. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card allowed me to buy excellent resources such as emergent readers to send home in these baggies as well as Google Slide templates and Boom Card games for them to play on their iPads to focus on skills they need. Virtual learning has not been easy, but the resources I have been able to provide to these students have made it more enjoyable, exciting, and fun! Thank you truly making this the best year ever!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

The upcoming school year is unpredictable, chartered, and uncertain. I was lucky enough to have some of these incoming first graders as Kindergartners last year. These little ones walked out the door in March and have not set foot back in their school since. My students are enrolled in a Title I school in the NYC DOE and come from many diverse cultures. No matter what learning looks like this year, I want to create a safe, warm environment that teaches to the whole child and allows them to grow and become young leaders! My project includes many digital resources such as guided reading materials, activities, and also physical supplies such as book baggies and classroom supplies we may use if we are back in the classroom. If not, these supplies will be sent to students at home!
