The materials that I am requesting will enable me to continue and expand upon the types of independent learning centers that I utilize within my first grade classroom. These centers not only help to increase student learning but also increase levels of motivation because of the level of student engagement. These learning centers enable me to continue to productively engage students academically and reduce behavior issues while instructing various small groups in the areas of reading and mathematics. The CD/Cassette player will replace my previous unit which has become nonfunctional due to age and daily use. Having a listening center promotes a lifelong love of reading and books for students who are unable to read these books to themselves, increases student vocabulary, and provides excellent models for fluent reading. The STEM kits will enable me to add a new STEM learning center to my current center rotation. This STEM center will help to increase student problem solving skills and will be highly motivating as an extension of the STEM activities I am beginning to integrate within the classroom.
