Learning to Love Science in Pre-K!
Funded Dec 3, 2019Did you know that I have the coolest science area in my school? The River Bank Habitat is truly awesome. We have zebra fish, a pleco (algae eater), dwarf frogs and pond snails in addition to pond plants. My students are so excited when it's their day to feed the fish.
They are learning how different animals move and what they eat. We have even used observing the fish and frogs to create dance moves.
Students that I taught in previous years always seem to wander into my classroom at the end of the day and they love looking at the animals in the tank too.
Know that this generous gift will be used for many years to come (and that my current students will be wandering into my classroom to keep watching in the future)!”

Funded Dec 3, 2019Thank you so much for supporting my classroom project, "Do You Want To Play Pretend With Me?" The students in my classroom love the puppets and costumes that came to us due to your generosity. Their eyes grew wide and there was much oohing and aahing as I took each item out of the box!
Children learn through play and language and these wonderful toys support both.
Know that not only will these children enjoy these gifts on a daily basis but they will be used and loved by children for years to come.”

Funded Nov 27, 2018The students in my classroom loved the wonderful center activities you provided with your generous donation! Students learn so much more when they learn from each other. In addition to sharpening needed skills, my little ones are also working on sharing, taking turns, and the polite language that comes with sharing and helping each other. Every new center box opening was an event and the kids were excited to learn each new game. They watched eagerly as I demonstrated the game and when students were comfortable, they got to practice what they learned with partners. This freed me up to help the students who did not grasp the skill so that they too could become successful.
Thank you again for helping these wonderful children.”

"We Grew Food?" said Pre-K.
Funded Dec 5, 2019Oh my goodness! This is so exciting! My students live in an underserved community where there is a bodega on most corners offering very limited food choices. Fresh vegetables are not offered. My little ones will see how food is grown from beginning to tasty end. Children who may turn their noses up at the idea of “eating their vegetables” will get excited about eating them since they now have ownership. Wising you a wonderful New Year. 💖💖”

Funded Aug 2, 2018Dear Mr. Rodriguez,
I explained to my kindergarten class that you used a reward from your job to give them some great math games. Not only did you help them with their academics but you gave them a lesson in helping others. These children are usually on the receiving end of charity but I explained to them that one reason we work hard in school is to be able to get a great job and help others when they are grownups. My students love playing these math games and learning by playing with their friends. Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness to my little ones.
Very sincerely yours,
Nancy Kessler”

Write On!
Funded Dec 22, 2017This is the time of year when all the phonics work and reading we have done starts to show up in earnest in student writing in first grade. They are so excited to see their ideas take shape on the page in front of them in a way it never has before! They go from trying to remember what they wrote to being able to recognize the words they wrote. The materials you supplied, though very basic, are exactly what they need. Lots and lots of pencils, post-its, hi-liters, staplers and red pencils are all valuable tools my little ones need to continue to improve and evolve as writers.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity!”

Can I Read? Please??
Funded Dec 5, 2017My students LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these bean bag chairs. A favorite activity is to sit side by side and share a book with a fellow reader. Anything I can do to help my first graders become better and more enthusiastic readers is so worthwhile. Many of my students have parents who cannot read to them in English or have parents who work several jobs and cannot give them the time at home so it is crucial that these little ones read as much as possible when they are in school. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity to my students. Not only do they enjoy these bean bag chairs but other students will for years to come.”

Funded Jan 1, 2018Art is essential to growing little ones! We use art to describe what we are writing and as a way to communicate before writing is possible. Many of my students are learning to speak and write in English but can always get their ideas across through art. While in the beginning of the year, crayons are the art tool of choice, my class is learning to use the paints and brushes you so generously supplied. Painting can teach both wild creativity and restraint,
self expression and working together collaboratively. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind gift.”

Please....More Math!
Funded Nov 28, 2017Please accept my deepest gratitude for your kindness and generosity in supplying my class with these awesome math materials. Math should be fun! Our math curriculum gives us daily lessons and workbooks but the students really blossom when they can take the concepts they've learned and use them in playing games. While playing math games, they are helping other students reinforce their earlier learning too. My students will never know your names but will remember the gift that you have given them.”

I'm a Scientist!
Funded Nov 28, 2017I explained to my students that even though the microscopes are recommended for children 9 years old and up, I thought they were old enough to use them! They looked into the eyepieces and saw things that they've never seen before. Insect legs and flower parts zoomed into focus and spurred their imaginations.
Thank you so much for your generosity to my class. These children live in an inner city, low sociol-economic community and science will be the way out of poverty for some of them, all starting with your gift.”
