A writing center will give my students a special area where they can practice skills needed to produce great writers. It will be an inviting area where four children will work at the same time during small group center time.
A wide variety of materials will be provided and organized at this station so the children are motivated and focused to explore writing (e.g., a variety of paper, pencils, markers, wipe-off boards, blank cards, books and notepads, etc.)! They will learn to respect the area and the materials given. It will be an area where students will be enticed to create and write cards, letters, lists, stories, signs, etc.
It is important to provide writing opportunities to help students develop fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination and literacy. It is also a place where the students can develop a positive attitude toward writing. They can develop their writing together and help each other.
