When I walked into my classroom at the beginning of the year and saw that I had no computers, laptops, or tablets for student use I knew I would have my work cut out for me. Helping 60 students with all different learning levels was a real problem. Now through efforts of my school we have five desktop computers which the students use every day, across all subject matters! With these 5 tablets we will be able to have more meaningful, diversified and engaging center work every day! Already my students love working with several websites that help them with keyboarding skills, reading comprehension, and math instruction specific to their needs and skill level. But with only 5 computers and 60 children it is hard giving them as much exposure to these wonderful resources as I would like. These tablets already have several specific purposes waiting. Students will use them in math centers as they scan QR codes to check their work. They also will play highly engaging, fast-paced games which help a lot in memorization of the multiplication facts. In science they will be able to conduct necessary research, view instructional videos, and dig into topics which we do not have textbooks for. In reading they will be able to work on ReadTheory to improve their reading comprehension, while reading age appropriate, real world articles. They will also be able to easily check books in and out of our growing classroom library! We are teaching in a technology engulfed society and must prepare our students to be productive members in such society. Your contribution to our efforts is so appreciated!
