Back-to-school always comes with anxiety and jitters, but this year is different. Not only are my students starting their first year of high school, but they're doing so in the middle of a pandemic after missing the last quarter of their eighth grade year. My students tend to struggle with writing, and I fear that struggle will be amplified this year. By utilizing these materials, I hope to reach every student I teach, meet them where they are, and help them develop into confident readers and writers. A document camera and chart paper will allow me to model great writing techniques and have the whole class participate in peer-editing in real time. Teachable moments will be able to happen in that moment with the ability to display student work instantly via the document camera rather than waiting until the next day to have copies available. We will have the ability to annotate texts together and share ideas to build stronger connections to our texts! Utilizing chart paper will eliminate the problem of getting great information on the board, but having to erase it at the end of class. My students will have the opportunity to reference notes from previous lessons as well as creating their own posters to put their knowledge on display!
