Funded May 9, 2018I have been using my mailbox center in the classroom for a couple of months, and it has been such a great tool for my classroom. I have a mail-person who distributes the mail daily. Typical mail includes corrected homework, notes that need to go home to parents and their parent-teacher communicators that go home daily. It puts all of the paper in one central place so that the students can grab everything at the end of the day and put it in their folder to go home.
It has also been super helpful with student absences. I use a red folder for students who are out. During the day, I put any work they miss into their mailbox and at the end of the day, the mail-person puts those papers into the red folder. This has made it easy for my students to know what work they missed and what they have to make up.
With this mailbox in my room, it has helped me keep up with returning student's work. If I miss a day and do not hand back any work, they are quick to give me a "friendly" reminder. They are so accustomed to getting the work back that they are disappointed when there is no work to go home to show their parents.
This was the first project that I have posted on Donorschose.org and I am overwhelmed with the generosity of strangers. As a teacher, my first priority is to help my students learn and become better people. Sometimes, it can be costly to give my students all of the things that will help them. This is one tool that I couldn't have afforded to purchase, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hickey
