Every single year I have been incredibly lucky to have gotten amazing and wonderful students. And this year is no exception. (Kids are great!)
For 180 days a year our class gets to build relationships, grow as people and learners, and discover new things about ourselves, our classmates, and our world.
All people have challenges, but challenges can be overcome. Some challenges my students encounter include living in poverty, learning English as a second (or sometimes third+) language, or surviving other adverse childhood experiences (ACE). In our classroom, students not only learn academic skills, they also learn social and emotional skills that will help them develop resilience, and give them strategies to cope with life's challenges! (Yoga breaths are a favorite tool, of several, to help us calm down!) My goal each year is to teach not only the standards and curricula, but to go beyond and teach each whole child.
