Having this set of read alouds will allow my students to be engaged in relevant fiction and nonfiction texts. These texts were chosen because they align to our reading curriculum and the Common Core State Standards. The books that are included are not only relevant, but rigorous and complex and they generate wonderful discussions. Each week these books will be used as mentor texts. There are aligned activities for each text that include the reading comprehension strategy for that week, vocabulary, grammar, paired texts, and projects.
Having read some of these texts to my students already via library books, I know how much they capture students' interest and increase participation and discussion. I cherish the time spent with students during read alouds, and I hope these books will engage my classes throughout the years.
