  • Everyone Needs To Read To Kill a Mockingbird!

    Funded Mar 5, 2019

You did it! Thank you so much for your generosity. Because of you, my students have access to one more amazing book and be able to connect with the difficult issues surrounding the characters and themselves.

I cannot wait to start reading this with my kids. We will start as soon as they arrive!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brown

  • 5 Chromebooks Makes A Difference

    Funded Mar 16, 2018

"Mrs. Brown, how do I change the way my letters look?"

"Mrs. Brown, how do I save this?"

"Mrs. Brown, how do I put a picture here?"

These are the questions I've been fielding since I received the most amazing donation of 5 chrome books. It was a breathtaking moment when my students opened up the computers and signed in and cruised around the Internet for a couple of minutes... but then the impact of having them really crashed down. They really didn't know how to use a computer in an academic way. How to open a document, how to format the text, how to save and share their work... Thank goodness the computers came before they went to high school!

For the last few months, the other teachers on my team have each also put in a Donor's Choose project for 5 chrome books and now, as an 8th grade, we have 20 to share. This will help us teach our students the basics of modern day academic work!

The biggest impact is the ability of our students to access their work on Goggle Classroom. From there they can work in the classroom, at home on their phones, or in the computer lab. We have much more engagement and work completion now that their work is online. The students seem to take more responsibility this way.

Thank you so much for this opportunity and the ability to teach my kids real life skills that they can connect with so eagerly. I truly cannot express how grateful I am that there are people who care enough to help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brown

Today’s kids live in a world where technology in a common tool for communicating, playing, and more and more often, learning. In many classrooms around this state, each child has access to a laptop or tablet. They can access Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, and other important presentation programs to learn better typing, presenting, appropriate search techniques, and essay building. My kids do not. We are working hard everyday to learn literacy skills and writing skills along with the rest of the state, but we fall behind in computer skills. Along with my regular ed students who need computers, I have 30 students who are busy learning how to speak, write, and read English- they need access to computers more than any of us! I’d like 5 Chromebooks for my classroom to allow my kids the same access to technology as the rest of the kids in Massachusetts.
