Seal and Protect Futures with a Class Laminator

Funded Mar 11, 2018

My English Language Learning students used our new classroom laminator to make durable figurative language board games. This project proved to be a highly engaging collaborative learning experience for all of my students. Each and every student in my class actively and enthusiastically participated in making a game, and then later enjoyed playing the student-created games. Knowing that they had the special laminator to enhance their projects really inspired my students, and they were motivated to work hard to create quality games.

I was particularly impressed with a group of especially at-risk students in one of my classes. These boys have been in trouble with the law, have dealt with difficulties at home and in their neighborhood, and have struggled with staying focused and motivated in school. In creating game boards and question cards, these same students were more engaged than I have ever seen them! They worked hard each day in class to create their board game and game cards. They were proud of their work. They even stayed engaged in playing the board games longer than any other group. This project was a definite success for these struggling boys.

All of my students created phenomenal board games. Each group took such pride in their work. Their engagement in the process of making the games and also in playing the games was unprecedented and simply beautiful. The laminator was fun for them and truly motivating to them. This project, using the laminator, has been a highlight of the year for me, and I am confident my students would agree. I am so proud of my students, and more importantly, they are proud of themselves.”
