I teach Remedial Math. In order to best serve my students, we work with a program called Math180. This program is designed to help students create a strong foundation of basic math skill such as fractions, multiplying, and adding and subtracting decimals. The program has 9 blocks in one course. Each block has 3 topics. Each topic has 2-3 lessons on the software. At the beginning of each lesson, there is a video that demonstrates the concept and connects the concept to real life. When students are practicing the lessons and working problems the software will tell them if they got the questions right or give them a hint to help them move on to the next part. Each question is split up into smaller steps to break down the concept for my students. Each lesson build upon the other and each block build upon each other. Student progress is the number one goal. Most of my students either don’t have or can't afford to buy and bring in their own headphones. My students need headphone or earbuds to be able to listen and watch the videos so they can have a better understanding of the concepts. I have some students that have learning disabilities that have read aloud accommodations and need headphones. The video connects the concepts to real-life situations that allow students to make strong connections to help them understand the concept better. I am able to track how each student is performing in the software. With the printer, I can print out individual reports to help build their confidence in themselves and to help them see how much they have grown.
