Many of my students come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Recess time at school is the only time some of them get to spend outdoors. There are also many special needs students in the class. Playing on the same teams will help bridge differences. The playground ball would be perfect for kickball games where the students can work together. Through sports, they can build friendships and create a sense of our class as a team. Common interests in soccer, basketball, or jumping rope will bring the children together. Soccer is an extremely popular sport with my students. We currently do not have a soccer ball for them to use. The basketballs would allow the students to take advantage of the courts at the school. Many of the students would like to use the jump ropes for double dutch jumping. It is not always possible to get outside during the school day. Having strategy games in the classroom will exercise the students' minds when they can not exercise their bodies. Strategy and logical thinking play a big part in Uno, Connect Four, and especially Clue. Students can work on their organizational skills by setting up tournaments. Math lessons can be utilized to calculate the number of games, etc.
