Greenleaf Library serves a dual language TK-8th school. Access to independent free-reading is a crucial component of literacy. Our library of primarily English language books does not sufficiently serve the needs of our student population. With an average of 10 books per student, does not come close to meeting the California State standard of 25 books per student. Every single student deserves access to books that they love, and a lack of culturally relevant, high quality, high interest books should not be a barrier to that! Getting them excited about reading - and keeping them excited - is essential to their success. Our students have shown us that they are hungry for books - if we give them the books that they want, they WILL read them. It is our intention to provide culturally relevant, high quality, high interest materials to inspire life-long readers and scholars.
