Great Books for Middle School Book Clubs!
Funded Dec 1, 2021I want to thank you for your incredible generosity towards purchasing books for book clubs. Creating book clubs was the highlight of this school year and I could not have done this without your help. Students were given the opportunity to create their own groups and select their own books to read together. With your donation, we were able to add more options that students absolutely loved. These books were passed around, talked about, and loved. Students were saying how much they enjoyed this reading opportunity and even wanted to continue creating books clubs after this unit. I cannot wait to repeat this activity in the next school year. Thank you, again, for supporting my students and their journey as readers!”

Funded Oct 21, 2021I apologize for the late thank you, but no doubt has your generosity been on my mind as I see my students enjoying the books that were donated by you. Every day these books are read, passed from hand to hand, and talked about with friends. Our mission this year is to read the most books we have ever read and to feel like a reader. With your help, students have been able to hit their reading goals. Graphic novels are an important part of any library because they give accessibility to ALL readers despite their reading journey. Again, thank you for helping me create a successful year of reading for my wonderful students!”

Funded Sep 1, 2021Thank you so much for your donations towards these amazing books! My heart is so full! The best way to keep students reading is to keep new and exciting books within their hands. Because of you, so many students are trying new books, talking about them, and passing them around to their friends. These stories are important and I'm excited to have many copies within our class. I am incredibly grateful for your generosity. Thank you for empowering our reading community by contributing to our classroom library!”

Funded Aug 11, 2021This school year has come with some emotional challenges as students become acclimated with the school environment. Students are figuring themselves out and where they fit in when it comes to their small academic world. The books you have donated are about the stories of middle school and high school students who are going through the same emotions as many of those in my class. These books have brought comfort, peace, clarity, and curiosity. More importantly, these books have become a gateway for important discussions between friends, classmates, and families.
Every day we read independently and then talk about the books we are reading. The books you have donated have led to beautiful discussions on identity and respect.
We are so thankful for your generosity and helping us fill our shelves with diverse stories that are helping young readers navigate the world! 🙏 I couldn't be the teacher I am without your help.”

Wonderful and Powerful Books by Latinx and Chicanx Authors
Funded Aug 11, 2021Your donation to our classroom library has made an incredible impact on our reading choices over the last few months! Many students are becoming aware of their reading diets and the importance of branching out to experience the story telling of diverse authors.
Everyday we read in class and take time to talk about our books. The books you have donated have been passed around and shared. Students have expressed their excitement to be reading a book that relates to them, their home language, their culture, and even the food their own family makes. These books have also led to beautiful discussions on representation of diversity and the importance of equity and kindness.
We can teach so much through the power of a wonderful novel, so we thank you for filling our shelves with voices and stories from the Latin and Hispanic community. 🙏”

Amazing New Novels for Middle Schoolers!
Funded Jun 5, 2021The start of the new school year has been amazing thanks to your donations! I have been able to flood the classroom with all the new and exciting novels that were purchased. On the first day of school, I had them on display and students were in awe when I told them they could check them out. We have built a solid reading community that allows students to read and browse books on a daily basis. We take time to do book-talks and share our reading experiences which often leads to students swapping books or forming clubs and reading together. Many students are forming a love of reading all thanks to you! Thank you for being a huge part of our reading community!”

Funded May 5, 2021Thank you so much for donating to our project for new novels in verse! The minute we opened the box of new books, students couldn't wait to get their hands on them. After book talking and passing them around, we had to raffle off the books so see who could read them first!
The excitement from these books was palpable. We have been talking about these new books, but had trouble finding copies since our school library is shared with 1400+ students. Now that we have our own classroom copies, enthusiasm for reading was brought back into some of my reluctant readers.
Because of your donation, I not only have five reluctant readers currently obsorbed in their new books such as Rivals, Starfish, and Alone, I also have four whole classes of students who feel special and cared for! Thank you for helping our school year end on an exciting note!”

This school year, I had one boy who was not into reading. Once he got started with the first book, he could not put it down. We Need Diverse Books
Funded Feb 7, 2020I apologize for the late thank you, and I am sorry for not replying sooner. It feels that I am just now coming up for air during these unprecedented times, and so I want to make sure you receive the gratitude you deserve.
Once our books came into our classroom, the pandemic closed schools down. While the students of 2019-2020 did not have a chance to enjoy the books, the students of 2020-2021 ate the up! During these time, our diverse books are needed more than ever to spur discussions of racial injustices, equality, and empathy. One of the best ways to learn about our world is through books written by own-voices, authors who have lived through the challenges that we need to discuss.
Every day we book talk a book and let it lead our class discussions. Students are given choices in what they read for our daily reading time and these books are always flying off the shelves. For some books, excerpts are taken and shared with the entire class so that we can sample the amazing stories. If we can find enough copies, students will take time to talk about these books together, and then recommend them to others. Our classroom is a safe environment for students to learn about the world around them and become great citizens to make this world a more peaceful place. Thank you for your donations that build the literacy foundations for these amazing kids! You are AMAZING!”
