The science materials I am requesting are the tools that my students will use to become the innovators of tomorrow. Imagine walking into a classroom and seeing a group of students mesmerized by a chemical reaction bubbling away in a test tube. At another table, students are carefully weighing powders and liquids that will be mixed together to produce a gas. Other students are recording the color change they see after mixing a solution while another group is feeling how warm a test tube gets when two chemicals are mixed together. Science is fun for kids. They love to get their hands on it and see how the world works. Research shows over and over again the benefits of students using their hands to perform experiments and applying their knowledge. But we don't need much more than our own experience to know that we learn and remember what we use. Our memories will take us only so far, but our experiences can build our future. I want my students to have experiences so they can truly understand what they are being taught. The students will use the materials I am requesting to measure substances, watch reactions, and experiment with their world. These activities will boost their creativity and curiosity, and deepen their understandings preparing them for the futures they desire.
