Simply the Basics
Funded Aug 24, 2021The materials in this project have been a hit since they have arrived. First, the headphones and computer mice are used everyday. Each student has their own set to navigate and work on their Chromebook. Without the additions from this project, we would haven't had enough for the classroom.
The zipper pouches are the best. Students use them to keep their classroom supplies organized. Also, the primary pencils might be my favorite item from this project. These specially designed pencils have been so helpful with struggling writers this year.
In room 128 right now, you would see a lot of learning going on. We continue to grow plants, right now it's lettuce. In math, we are expanding our knowledge of place value and bigger numbers. Reading is a blast as we are doing a whole informational text unit around animals at the zoo. Lastly, we have been writing a narrative about time traveling and spending time with Dr. Martin Luther King.”

Funded Nov 19, 2021This project has transformed our classroom for several reasons. The chair pockets have done a lot to improve room 128. First, we spend less time on transitions throughout the day, because our learning materials right in reach. This allows more time for learning and some extra recess time. The kids love that!
Also, the students are just more organized with their supplies having unified chair pockets. Each student follows our chair pocket expectations. It's awesome. The chair pockets are extremely durable and many teachers are very jealous of our room set-up.
As we move into the next month, our classroom continues to learn about plants, place value, and reading informational text. Right now, we are preparing also for the science fair and Black History Month as well. We thank you again for your generosity.”

Funded Jun 17, 2021Technology in schools is part of our everyday life, especially since COVID-19 has forced many schools to be virtual in some capacity. In room 128, we use our Chromebooks daily. Computer mice have made using operating Chromebooks a lot easier. Some of the programs that we use work better with a mouse. Also, younger students have difficulty using a trackpad.
If you were to step into our classroom for the day, you would be seeing learners using their Chromebooks in these ways.
Reading and math skill building using several different programs and games.
Seesaw- this is an online platform where students complete learning tasks and share their learning. It builds into a digital learning portfolio.
Having these computer mice just makes these tasks easier for students to complete.”

Funded Mar 4, 2021This year has just been awesome with teaching reading. We are using a brand new curriculum that has been really showing growth in our learners. With this project, the books have been used daily as take home readers for independent reading at home. The books have sparked more reading in our classroom. For example, students are wanting to exchange their leveled readers more often during the week, because they want to read another book. Students learn how to read, but also learn to enjoy reading as well NOW.
These books reflect the world they know. They love reading books that have diverse characters and topics that interest them.
Finally, the picture books have been great in teaching historical topics, empathy, and appreciation for others. You have made a difference!!!!”

Funded Apr 15, 2021Last year was a very difficult school year with being virtual for about 75% of the school year. Our money and economics unit was delivered virtually, which didn't allow these awesome resources to be used yet. However, we have been in-person the whole school year this year. I would like to share you some of the ideas and uses that will be used with these resources. I will provide photos once these actions start rolling into room 128.
1. Small Group Instruction (Counting Money) - Students will learning money concepts in small groups with the resources.
2. Connect and Use In Economics- In spring, we do a whole unit on economics. Look forward to provide visuals and games to support this unit.
3. Learning Extension: Money concepts will be offered for higher level first graders as math enrichment opportunity.”

Funded Jul 7, 2021We are just starting to get this project moving. The project has had some delays in using the materials due to the transition of moving from virtual learning to in-person learning this school year.
Right now, the students just had a health unit of healthy foods. Through our next writing project, I will be modeling my How to Writing with using indoor gardening kit. I will be able to model the process of writing, but also starting to grow foods indoors the rest of the school year. Very exciting. As for the gloves and garden tools, we set to start growing outdoors in spring. I will be sharing photos throughout the journey.
Thank you for letting us grow!”

Funded Mar 17, 2021This project has been huge hit in room 128. These books in particular are used in two ways in our classroom. They are used daily for students to read after completing their morning work. They love diving deep into a book that sparks their interest, but also at their reading ability.
Secondly, the books are used for read at home. Students read them for their reading log.
The skills intended for the books are to used to develop sight word recognition, increase vocabulary, and build fluency. Ultimately, my goal as a teacher to build a confident reader.”

Funded Mar 9, 2021Reading looks very different in every classroom. In our classroom, you will notice that their is a abundance of leveled readers that are marked specifically by their level. This allows me as a classroom teacher to provide books that students can read independently with little to no help at all. Ultimately, giving each child a just right book! Yet, I learned very quickly that my small leveled readers would not meet several of my high readers. That's why this project was created and luckily funded very quickly.
There is something special in watching a child submerge themselves in their first chapter book. They hold it so proud with the focus to show they are growing up as a reader. For this collection of books, I was able to see where many of my higher level readers gravitate towards book selection. The Dogman Series was by far the most popular. What is Dogman you ask? It's a graphic novel series that young readers love. It's about a Dog, who helps saves the problems of the world.
Thank you for saving our problem! Your KINDNESS ROCKS!”

Funded Feb 26, 2021As we moved backed into in-person learning, I have been able to see the impact of this project. Let me tell you something special about this project! Books are flying off the shelf. Kids are finding books that they can read independently and wanting more!
The new school year will begin roughly about 6 weeks, which just gets me excited to be back in the classroom with all these book choices. For the upcoming school, this books will be used within other content areas like science and social studies. Also, hopefully being able to be resources for research projects.
Out of all the books, these were the following titles that the students enjoyed the most so far: Uni the Unicorn Uni's First Sleepover, Katie Fry, Private Eye #1, Garden Day, Snow Day, and lastly The Story of Spider-Man.
This project was filled with many biographies, which I have the intentions to do a project around them!”

Funded Feb 18, 2021I have been waiting to send this thank you as the materials for this project has not been used yet, till now. When our students returned to school in April, I was able to see the power of these books. These books were used to build confidence and fluency at each of the student's independent level.
My struggling readers really enjoyed the comic readers. They were able to read many different books in a short period of time. They were so proud of themselves.
During the school year 2021-2022, I see these books as perfect ones to send home as reading homework to build fluency. Great resources! Thank you so much for promoting literacy in our classroom.”
