  • Cleaning Wipes and Snacks!

    Funded May 6, 2022

The students were so elated to see the snacks and wipes that entered the classroom when we needed them the most. We were close to being out of snacks and we had no wipes for several days. Now, their tummies are filled every morning for snack and the wipes are keeping 128 shining.

With the school year ending, I would like to share of the learning we are doing in our room. First, we are loving geometry with learning concepts of 3D shapes. In social studies, we are working on our mapping skills with also writing about our city. In reading, we are building on phonics with long vowel sounds and continue to read independently with reading swag!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Steger

  • Hands-on Science!

    Funded Apr 28, 2022

First, I would like to share the moment when the students first saw the materials. It was like I was Oprah. All the materials came at once in one giant shipment. I opened the boxes in front of the students one by one. It was a great way to end our Friday. They cheered and shouted excitement after each box was opened. Now, each Friday, we have Science Kit Friday aka Fun Friday to end our week.

The kits are used in 2 week rotations. The students work with others to play and explore the kits as they are learning many different science concepts. It's amazing to watch. They are very respectful with the kits and keep them organized as well. This will ensure that the kits will be used for many years.

As we end the year in room 128. our class continues to work on 3D shape concepts, writing a creative narrative story, and long vowel sounds. Science Kit Fridays will be used again next school year.”

  • Make Learning Visual and Engaging!

    Funded Jan 9, 2022

I am very proud to say that every resource that was part of this project has been used already this school year. These resources have made small group learning engaging and the students can't enough of the games.

The best part of the project I believe is the ability to reach all students by their ability and need as a learner. These resources have been great learning tools for our special education students in the classroom. Our teacher assistant and I use them daily to reinforce skills and help these students meet their learning goals. Very powerful!!!

You made a huge difference in our room.”

  • Just Basic Necessities

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

I don't think people truly understand how many pencils an elementary teacher goes through in a year, unless they truly live it. Our class has gotten better in not wasting our pencil supplies by creating a pencil lost and found. A student daily checks the floor for pencils and places in the lost and found. Now, when a student needs a pencil, they use the lost and found supply. Also, the pencil cap erasers have made it a lot easier to use the whole pencil.

Also, the zipper pouches have been so great for constructing small group kits for learning in reading and math. The folders have been used to replace students' writing and take-home folders.

Lastly, I will give you an update of what we are doing in our classroom. Currently, we are gardening in our garden outside and still growing veggies in our indoor garden as well. In writing, we are writing about Milwaukee and what our city offers. In math, we are finishing our time unit. Thank you so much for your kindness.”

    Mr. Steger

The pencil sharpers have made great prizes. The students love them!!!!!!

  • Bringing Books Home!

    Funded Oct 25, 2021

This project was something very special! With the use of these books, in the month of February, our class read 5,625 minutes at home as a class. After 12 years of teaching, I have to say that is one of the proudest moments of my teaching career. Your generosity made a huge impact.

Everyday in reading, we practice our reading stamina and fluency using these books. It's a beautiful sight to hear and see readers read with confidence and joy.

Lastly, I would like to share my secret recipe for increasing independent reading at home. Reading Teams!!!!!!! Each month, I select a sport and create reading teams. We have a classroom scoreboard, where we track the data. 1 point is worth 15 min of reading. Your points go towards your reading teams. Winning teams get extra prizes!”

  • Make Indoor Recess Educational and Fun!

    Funded Jan 7, 2022

Thanks to you, we are rocking indoor recess! Winters in Wisconsin can always be a challenge, yet not in room 128. My students get so excited to play with their new indoor recess games and activities. First, these resources have taught me so much about my students, what they enjoy or gravitate towards for free play.

First, we have many builders in the classroom. Legos are a huge hit. I think every child has played with them at least one. I will continue to build on our lego collection. Students lately have been getting into playing Go Fish as well.

Lastly, the biggest hit has been Cup stack. It's so fun watching compete against each other. It's so fun to watch. You have made a difference.”

  • Floor Cushions for Safe and Flexible Seating

    Funded Jan 11, 2022

When my students first saw the floor cushions, they were so excited to use them for partner reading. Now they are used for such much more. They truly provide flexible seating in many capacities in room 128. Wisconsin winter can be cold and brutal, but now students are able to spread around the classroom during indoor recess with comfort.

Also, I have found ways to do small group instruction with them as well. Students grab clipboards and cushions, then we gather to learn. It's so awesome. They take great pride of keeping them clean and organized.

Truly a special gift to 128! You made a difference!”

  • Cleaning Wipes and Snacks!

    Funded Dec 17, 2021

The students are loving the snacks. I would say their favorite has to be the goldfish crackers. Most importantly, I have been able to ensure that my students have something to eat everyday at snack.

The wipes are used daily with eating in the classroom due to the pandemic. The wipes provide a clean surface to work and eat on.

Room 128 has been really enjoying the school year, especially with growing plants in the classroom. As for reading and writing, we are currently working on our animal projects. Learning never stops in this classroom. You have made a difference.”

  • Snacks and Safety

    Funded Sep 24, 2021

All the resources in this project have been used. All disinfecting wipes have been used to clean desks and other spaces in the classroom. We currently still eat breakfast and lunch in classroom due to the pandemic, which creates a lot of mess. As a teacher, I am so thankful that I had these wipes to support this current situation.

As for the snacks, I would say on average we go through about 20 snacks daily. Many students come to school hungry and with no morning snack. All the snacks have been eaten and the students appreciated it so much.

    You made a huge difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Steger

I am asking for a variety of materials that will enhance and support reading workshop in my classroom. The goal of my project is to continue to update our classroom library with engaging books and having the resources needed for our learner to work independently. The 14 biographies will be used to promote the reading of nonfiction text in the classroom. It will also support a biography genre study project in which learners will read biographies. They will read this biographies and create research project about their findings. The 24 scissors will help learners to be able to construct projects, cut their weekly spelling words, and be used in our learning activities that require cutting. The 36 pair of headphones will be used for reading intervention time. Learners need headphones to support this computer-based reading program. There are also many other reading activities and games that support learning that require headphones. With headphones, I am able divide my class into small groups to give instruction, while others maybe doing an intervention time or reading choice on the computer. Finally, the 18 Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants book will be used for independent reading options for my learners. These books are in high demand. They are always checked out in our classroom library. We need more copies and some need to be replaced. Reading Workshop is a teaching practice that promotes a love for reading through mini-lessons, guided reading, and independent practice of reading and reading related activities. Teaching reading becomes far more effective when you have the materials to allow students to work independently during your literacy block. These allows me to teach in small groups that are differentiated by ability. Learners then are able to receive meaningful instruction at their level. This makes school more enjoyable and productive for all our learners.
