This project has achieved this intention with students look forward to reading their book of choice in class, but also looking forward to bring them home to read as well. It's an amazing sight to see when a child comes back to school ready to check-out different from your classroom library.

  • More Dry Erase Markers and Pencils, Please!

    Funded Apr 6, 2023

Room 130 use the resources daily from this project. We are always in need of pencils and dry erase markers. We are still learning to improve as a class of keeping track of our pencils and markers.

These basic materials provides accessibility to every day tasks we do everyday in our classroom. Pencils speaks for themselves. Dry-Erase markers are used with individual whiteboards that we use for several learning throughout the day.

The whiteboards especially are used in math. We are currently working on subtracting bigger numbers with multiple strategies. The markers make this possible each day for students to build on those strategies they are learning.”

  • Refresh Art Supplies for Projects and Learning Activities!

    Funded May 6, 2022

I am very excited to share with you about the impact that the new resources have had on our students. The art supplies have been used throughout the school year. Many of our students come to school without markers, colored pencils, or crayons. Now, all students in room 128 have access to all the art supplies needed to complete classroom activities.

Currently, the students have been using the supplies to make their classroom Valentines, in which they each write a message of kindness to each classmate. Also, we have been designing posters for Black History Month. We have completed a beautiful poster of Kamala Harris and Frederick Douglass. Now, we are working on a poster of Harriet Tubman. They are turning out amazing.

Lastly, as the classroom teacher, I want to personally thank all donors for supporting this project. This project has brought life and color to the classroom. Thank you so much.”

  • Classroom Indoor Garden!

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

Growing plants in the classroom brings so much joy and responsibility to the classroom. Students look forward each day to returning to school to see the progress of the plants in the classroom. Also, they are learning about methods besides outdoor gardening that creates plant growth.

We are able to grow many different types of lettuces in our hydroponic machine. Students are able to eat a fresh and healthily snack that they grew together.

Lastly, this project has also enriched our plant unit in science as well. It's really brought science to life in the classroom.”

  • Materials for Personalized Learning Experiences

    Funded Apr 28, 2022

The cardstock and colored paper is used on a daily basis in room 128. As I stated when the project was created, I make many academic games activities with paper supplies. Since receiving the paper, I have been able to create so many personalized learning activities to support growth and just learning fun. Students love the games I have created with the paper with the support of laminating the activities to allow reusing them over and over. As we continue the school year, the cardstock and colored support reading and math intervention, but also spelling instruction.

Lastly, I use the laminator daily. When students complete writing projects, I laminate them and display them in the hallway. The lamination allows the projects to last for many years to come. You made a huge difference by donating to this project.”

  • Collecting and Composting!

    Funded Jul 21, 2022

Our school is currently expanding in so many ways. This spring our school will be getting an outdoor classroom, which will be located right by our school's outdoor garden. Our goal this spring is to restore our school's garden since the pandemic. Most recently community members cleaned it out and now it's time to bring it back to life. The composter and rain barrel will be added after the final snow in 2023.

Not only will my classroom use the garden and the materials from this project, but the goal is for other classes to use them. I hope to start a green club in spring. After winter break, we will diving into our plant and environment unit. Students will learn how the rain barrel will support our garden and how a composter works.

Thank you so much for bringing these additions to our school!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Steger

  • Thank You For Reading

    Funded Aug 8, 2022

The importance of this project was developed on valuing hard and effort of students reading at home. The prizes have been used throughout the school year so far this year.

First, I was able to reward students for completing the summer work packet that involved reading activities. Students were so excited to choose from the variety of prizes to choose from.

Also, I have been able to reward students who have been completing their monthly reading log. Students are expected to read 300 minutes. It's so great to see them turn in their logs. Reading progress is happening in our classroom and your generosity supports the cause.”

  • Diverse Early Chapter Books

    Funded Feb 18, 2022

In reading and writing, we are currently in our unit 7 of CKLA, which is our reading curriculum. This unit we are advancing our decoding skills, spelling and reading long vowel sounds, how to use conjunctions and commas, and practicing the writing process with writing projects. The curriculum is amazing, but with these books added from our this project just builds on it so well. It provides the independent reading part of our reading block. All students are reading books at their level to build confidence and stamina.

If you were to observe us in reading, you would see 1 hour of CKLA implementation that filled with reading decodable text, learning to new language skills, and classroom reading games & activities. Then you would see students reading books from this project out loud and small activities building on the concepts we are learning in our curriculum.

The students are loving the books.”

  • Cleaning Wipes and Snacks!

    Funded May 6, 2022

The students were so elated to see the snacks and wipes that entered the classroom when we needed them the most. We were close to being out of snacks and we had no wipes for several days. Now, their tummies are filled every morning for snack and the wipes are keeping 128 shining.

With the school year ending, I would like to share of the learning we are doing in our room. First, we are loving geometry with learning concepts of 3D shapes. In social studies, we are working on our mapping skills with also writing about our city. In reading, we are building on phonics with long vowel sounds and continue to read independently with reading swag!”

I am asking for a variety of materials that will enhance and support reading workshop in my classroom. The goal of my project is to continue to update our classroom library with engaging books and having the resources needed for our learner to work independently. The 14 biographies will be used to promote the reading of nonfiction text in the classroom. It will also support a biography genre study project in which learners will read biographies. They will read this biographies and create research project about their findings. The 24 scissors will help learners to be able to construct projects, cut their weekly spelling words, and be used in our learning activities that require cutting. The 36 pair of headphones will be used for reading intervention time. Learners need headphones to support this computer-based reading program. There are also many other reading activities and games that support learning that require headphones. With headphones, I am able divide my class into small groups to give instruction, while others maybe doing an intervention time or reading choice on the computer. Finally, the 18 Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants book will be used for independent reading options for my learners. These books are in high demand. They are always checked out in our classroom library. We need more copies and some need to be replaced. Reading Workshop is a teaching practice that promotes a love for reading through mini-lessons, guided reading, and independent practice of reading and reading related activities. Teaching reading becomes far more effective when you have the materials to allow students to work independently during your literacy block. These allows me to teach in small groups that are differentiated by ability. Learners then are able to receive meaningful instruction at their level. This makes school more enjoyable and productive for all our learners.
