  • Learning Activities for All!

    Funded May 25, 2024

The students are enjoying all the uses for the paper and cardstock that was donated to our classroom. Last week, we used some of the orange cardstock to build wings for our birds for engineer unit. It was awesome!

Also, I have used to the paper in so many ways. First, I have used the cardstock to design learning games to practice and teach new skills in reading and math. Secondly, the paper is used for spelling words and important newsletter that are sent home to parents.

Lastly, the laminator and sheets have provided durability for the games and word wall words. We can used these words and games over many years now!”

  • Bringing Books Home!

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

The variety of genres at each level has provided tremendous reading choice for students to pick books that they can read independently. It's very reassuring as an educator to send books home that meet the level of each student with building confidence and skill nightly at home.

It's a beautiful sight to see when a child comes back to school wanting to read more books. They love showing their teacher how they practiced at home and well they can read their book now.

This project was intended to build on students becoming lifelong readers. I would say we are doing that with these books. Thank you!”

  • Keeping an Organized Classroom!

    Funded Aug 13, 2023

This project was intended to replace old and ripped chair pockets. We had about 6 needing replacing this school year so far. So thankful to have a quick replacement. The chair pockets keep our learning space organized, clutter free, and safe.

Lastly, having the supplies right in reach allows shorter transitions to increase more time for learning.

Lastly, chair pockets teach students about organization. They have to be responsible for their materials, but also keep them organized. Great life skill to teach 2nd graders.”

  • Classroom Essentials in Need

    Funded Apr 6, 2023

When I created this project, I stated that a well-organized project offers a clear and productive message to students. Yet, this project put that into action with the necessary materials to eliminate clutter and chaos.

I have seen a change with the classroom this year and last with organization to maximize learning time, but also eliminating student and teacher stress knowing we have all the basic supplies to do all tasks in the 2nd grade classroom.

Lastly, we use the glue sticks, markers, rulers for projects and activities. The zipper pouches help keep student materials organized. The purple folders are used as our daily take-out folders. They are sturdy and keep each learner organized daily.”

    Mr. Steger

I am asking for a variety of materials that will enhance and support reading workshop in my classroom. The goal of my project is to continue to update our classroom library with engaging books and having the resources needed for our learner to work independently. The 14 biographies will be used to promote the reading of nonfiction text in the classroom. It will also support a biography genre study project in which learners will read biographies. They will read this biographies and create research project about their findings. The 24 scissors will help learners to be able to construct projects, cut their weekly spelling words, and be used in our learning activities that require cutting. The 36 pair of headphones will be used for reading intervention time. Learners need headphones to support this computer-based reading program. There are also many other reading activities and games that support learning that require headphones. With headphones, I am able divide my class into small groups to give instruction, while others maybe doing an intervention time or reading choice on the computer. Finally, the 18 Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants book will be used for independent reading options for my learners. These books are in high demand. They are always checked out in our classroom library. We need more copies and some need to be replaced. Reading Workshop is a teaching practice that promotes a love for reading through mini-lessons, guided reading, and independent practice of reading and reading related activities. Teaching reading becomes far more effective when you have the materials to allow students to work independently during your literacy block. These allows me to teach in small groups that are differentiated by ability. Learners then are able to receive meaningful instruction at their level. This makes school more enjoyable and productive for all our learners.
