Occupational therapy sessions are much more rewarding for students when interventions are meaningful to everyday occupations. My students love working with jig saw puzzles and multi-sensory adaptive materials, such as stamps, dot paints and other media that provide tactile input. Puzzle play facilitates the development of the visual motor and executive functioning skills essential for a student to be successful; including hand-eye coordination, problem solving, adaptive reasoning, following directions, managing materials, organizing engagement, attention, task completion, and a sense of accomplishment. I'm requesting a variety of puzzles including Wild Animals, Farm Animals, Dinosaurs, Sea Life, Construction, Vehicles, and Pets. Adaptive materials, such as the Giant and Bright alphabet stamps enable students to enjoyably participate in art and other pre-writing activities to the best of their ability. Reading materials can be organized and stored in the Classroom Space-Saver Bookcase. It is wonderful to witness my students' liveliness and determination in participating in activities that are functional and purposeful to fulfilling their role as students. The visual motor and executive functioning skills the students learned are practiced and utilized in their other roles and areas of daily living.
