Our classroom library is used for a variety of activities, and students tend to use it daily. It is there for students to be able to choose a book of their liking, during down-time, as well as for more specific, objective-driven projects. The library is updated on a monthly basis. For the past year, our library has been lacking quality books, and it is time that this changes. Students are happier in a classroom when they have access to materials that allow them the success they deserve, through a literacy lens bringing forth answers to questions they have, or opening doorways to new ideas freshly discovered by them, through those books! There is a learning gap happening in the reading levels of students as they get older, that is why helping them build a loving relationship with reading is important NOW. The more frequently they practice their newly acquired reading skills, the more interested they will be when it comes to reading groups, and their confidence will be boosted by that sense of student ownership. My students love to have interesting books available to them, and I love being able to provide that for them.
