We will be reading and studying Anthem by Rand, a cautionary novel about the dangers of mandating conformity and banning originality. Students will use this text as a springboard for creating their own examples of artistic expression and for a research paper on real examples of totalitarian societies. Anthem demonstrates the dangers of a dictatorial government and uncovers the beauty of being unique! Each student will need a copy in order to be able to read independently at home and to annotate his or her text. Working with the ideas presented in the text, we will practice essay writing, thematic analysis, and learn to research more effectively and efficiently.
