Thanks to the game of football, we have had two students who were heading down the wrong life path turn their lives around for the love of sport. We have had some great success stories with some of our players moving onto college to continue playing the game; while other students used the lessons they learned while playing football, including motivation, focus, and goal-setting, to assist them as they entered the workforce, staying off the streets and out of gangs. Some of the players joined the program not knowing how to face adversity and would rather quit, as it was far easier than fighting through the challenges both on and off the field. The 2017 season was the most successful in recent years as the players learned to fight through the adversity and overcome the obstacles that they faced. This past season, we finished 25 student athletes on the sidelines; these numbers will only be increasing in upcoming seasons. English High Football wishes to serve many different purposes. Most importantly it hopes to be a teaching tool for discipline, mental toughness, and heart for a group of student athletes that might not otherwise know how to successfully navigate through the more difficult aspects of life. In this grant, we are requesting for items that will allow us to practice towards bettering our skills. These items include tackling dummies, a football shoulder pad rack, sandbags, and a football snapper stick. My students will practice hard and learn the fundamentals of football. It will allow for them to learn the sport as well as allowing me to assist them in being the best athlete they can be.
