Look, Look, Look
Funded Dec 21, 2011My class and I are so excited and grateful!! It is great to see that you share my vision for reaching children. Through you generous donations this project enhanced the students curiosity of the natural world around them. The tools (the "Big" microscopes) that you have funded has enabled the students to explore, question, discuss and record. The students have been working nonstop. Their use of content vocabulary has grown and so has their self confidence in group participation. We went into our school garden and the students got their own slide samples to use on the microscopes. It has opened their eyes to the their natural surroundings. Their involvement in this project has made them feel a true ownership of what they are learning.
I plan to share this project with my colleagues and encourage them to introduce it to their own students. I hope you continue to support Donors Choose so other teachers and their students get their fabulous projects fulfilled.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Wasserman Foundation and 5 other donors.Clay Animators Unite!
Funded Oct 21, 2009This project made such a huge impact on my students. They were so excited about creating something they could call their own. As a team they learned to work cooperatively. Their oral communication improved as they read and discussed their specific genre story (fantasy, fairy tale, folk tale or fantasy). They developed a storyboard and shared this with the other groups. The groups made suggested recommendations to improve on the other groups storyboards. I also made some recommendations to each group. Each student used modeling clay to make their character from the story. Using stop action motions with the clay characters, they retold their specific genre story. They enjoyed working with the cameras and tripods. Using the software Frames 4, the students transferred their photographs and created their clay animation movies. Each group added a title, recorded their story and music to their animation. They used a Animation Rubric to score their project. They made a Quicktime movie and presented it to their peers and parents. Finally, each student burned a hardcopy as a keepsake.
Thanks to your generous donation to Donors Choose, this project became possible for my students. I know the children will remember this activity more than a pencil and paper activity.”

Poetry In Motion
Funded Oct 2, 2009We are grateful for your generous donations to my classroom. Donors Choose purchased and shipped the Flip Video camera to our class. The impact of the Flip video camera has been tremendous for the students. First, they were exposed to the "elements of poetry". The students were able to distinguish the "rhyming, tone and word order" in the poetry they read or were read to. Even my shy or reluctant students became excited participants in our poetry project. Next, the children chose their favorite poem to recite and illustrated it. Finally, each student learned to use the Flip Video camera by taping their fellow classmate reading their poem. In mid-June, at our "Culmination of Learning" the students will present their poetry recordings to their parents and other students. I plan to share with my colleagues this new technique in learning. Your donations
to Donors Choose made this project possible for my class. Thank you so much! ”
