Students need to be ready to experience technology in the 21st century. In our classrooms we need to give our students a chance to experience these things first hand. We also need to allow them to push what they would do in a normal classroom. With a GoPro in the classroom, students will be able to become 1st hand observers of the laws of motion, be true scientists, and the crucial importance of wearing a seatbelt while a passenger in a car. In Science class we do several experiments involving Newton's Laws. One of those is demonstrating Newton's 1st Law and the importance of a seatbelt. We simulate both using a seatbelt and not using a seatbelt in the incidence of a car accident. The GoPro allows us to film what happens to the passengers in a vehicle when they do not wear a seatbelt. When the students see what happens to our test subject when they are not wearing a seatbelt, they are convinced of the life-saving power of a seatbelt. The second goal is to solidify the idea of Newton's 1st Law (Objects in motion remain in motion and objects at rest remain at rest). They will be in charge of their own learning and will be able to build presentations in this way for themselves and for other students. The technology integration will also give the students a chance to learn science in a way that they would not normally be seen in a classroom. Our final use of the GoPro is using it to film our field trips to post to our school website. We will be camping in the Santa Monica mountains soon and it would be perfect to document this trip.
