One of our collaboration projects between Humanities and Biology will be investigating disease and its stigmas. In order to be immersed in this project, we have chosen to read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot to help us dive into social epidemiology, bioethics, and access to healthcare. We are looking for support in meeting our goal of having a class set (25) of books so everyone can access the curriculum. These books will be the foundation of our collaboration project with their Humanities and Biology classes. Students will use these books as an aide to writing research papers about diseases and health care. More importantly, these books will provide access to enhance their critical thinking skills and build and sustain our classroom library. We skillfully push boundaries in the classroom to provide a "real world" setting while making sure students are not disadvantaged when accessing the curriculum. The best way to do this is with books in our hands!
