The World is Within Reach through Technology!
Funded Nov 7, 2019My students ask to use the new tablets every single day! They love to finish their classwork early in order to get the opportunity to use it. They have learned quickly how to navigate websites, bookmark their favorites, log in through our district technology portal to access class resources, and have even helped teach other students to do all of these things. It is such a great feeling to be able to see students who have not used technology in their everyday life to becoming experts of the tablet's features. They are able to access so many more digital books that pique more of their genre interests. I no longer have students who are bummed that they did not get a turn on the computers now that I have more technology to share. Even my quieter kids have shown real excitement about getting on a tablet. I've seen students who did not have much interest in reading to constantly wanting to use the tablets. It is through the donors that all of this is possible.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018As soon as my students received the package, their eyes lit up like it was Christmas all over again. After cycling through the same workstations with slight variations, they were ready for something different to challenge their minds. They could not wait to get their tiny hands on the new stations that laid before their eyes. As soon as they got started, they collaborated together quickly to figure out how each work station worked, even making up their own new rules in the process.
Something simple as a tangible puzzle for money counting had students eagerly recalling their knowledge of coin pieces in order to solve and put the matching pieces together. They talked about the pictures of the coins, explaining what each coin represented to each other and then made a decision whether or not it went with another piece. If someone didn't quite understand, the colorful pictures and quality of the center pieces really helped the students to distinguish between the different coins better than any black and white copy of money.
What I hoped to get out of this project with so many student centered work stations is student led learning. Students can be independent, practice team work to work through each bundle, and extend their learning with minimal help from me as the teacher. Peer teaching is very powerful and giving students choice in what they want to practice each day amongst each other will be motivating for all levels of learners.”
