Students in high trauma situations, like our students, have trouble knowing how to calm themselves down. With the materials for a calm down room, students will be able to use the boogie boards to reflect and draw, watch the calming lights, and listen to relaxing music on the new CD player. Students will be able to sit or lay down on the carpet or the bean bags and pillows in a softer light and use fidget toys or watch the fish in the aquarium to help them feel calm. Students will be able to reflect on their situation and think calmly about their actions and feelings. Students who are calm and relaxed are more apt to learn new things.
