Students just want to be heard. The best slam poetry books and the Louder Than a Bomb documentary have been chosen to help me guide my students as I create meaningful and pertinent lessons. Students will be able to study the written word as well as listen and watch from great slam poets. We will discuss what was done well in the books and documentary and study how to incorporate those things in their own writing. After studying from the masters, students will be able to create their own masterpieces. They will not just write their words on paper, but they will prepare and practice performing their writing to an audience. The microphones and speaker system are an integral part of the program. The only way students will improve is to practice, practice, practice until they are comfortable and confident speaking in a microphone in front of an audience.
