Headphones for First Grade Ears!
Funded Dec 29, 2021"Headphones for First Grade Ears" (our first independent headphones) was a big hit with my students. We used our headphones daily for testing and independent reading assignments, and my students were ready to learn and work on their assignments as the noise was blocked when reading silently while using their iPads. My students were successful in completing their independent assignments. Headphones for First Grade Ears also led to really great conversations about their daily learning and how it has help them to enjoy their work independently and in groups.
The first day we got out headphones we used them right away. My 1st grade students were able to connect them quickly to their iPads and immediately they wanted to start working on "imagine learning" a school program using their new headphones. My students were quiet and so focus on their independent learning. When one of the other teachers came to my classroom, she commented that she was so impressed that she would like to order the same headphone next year."
"This experience has motivated my students to look forward in using using their headphones and work on their iPads assignments. We appreciate all that you have done to make this happen!"”

Funded May 4, 2021The "Aquatic Ecosystem", (our first aquarium) was a big hit with all of my students! We observed it almost every day and shared thoughts about the little glowfish and their habitat in the aquarium. The Aquatic Ecosystem also led to some really great conversations about stress reduction and responsibility. When my students first saw the tank, they said "Wow! We have an aquarium! We are so excited!"
The aquarium was placed in our science center. My students got to learn how an aquatic ecosystem functions. They got to record and observe the fish and their interactions with environmental elements of the aquatic ecosystem that are related to survival and reproduction. We discussed how each particular environmental element contributed to the overall ecosystem within the aquarium in a way that is similar to the fish in the ocean and the elements there, such as water, plants, rocks, and soil. We also learned about life cycles, animal needs, and animal babies. My 1st grade students recorded their observations and gave small individual presentations about the environment and habitat of the aquarium. They were also able to make connections, learn about the delicate interaction and balance between organisms and their environmental habitat. They learned how to care for animals and show compassion. When one of my administrators visited the class, she was very impressed and liked the work that my students were doing.
We are so grateful for your generosity! This is an experience my students would not otherwise get. Since we cannot go on field trips, this helped bring life science into our classroom. The aquatic habitat is calming and peaceful for my students to look at and learn about each day. It makes the classroom environment welcoming. My students love coming to school to look at the fish and not a day goes by when they don't ask me how they are doing or if the fish have been fed. I appreciate all that you have done to make this wish come true for my students!”
