Many of my students have not grown up with an abundance of technological resources. If they are lucky, they have an inexpensive smartphone, and maybe one in ten of them have a PC at home. During their school career, through required curriculum, they have been exposed to computer literacy classes, some on Mac's, some on PC's, none on Chromebooks. Now we have been provided a One-to-One ChromeCart in our classroom. The push for technology in the classroom is a double edged sword when students are not privileged enough to have been exposed to variety of devices from an early age.Often, especially in my elective Mythology class that runs almost paper free on the devices, I need more time to explain the little quirks of working a Chromebook device than I do brand new activities in my lesson. Being able to provide each student with a familiar tool, a basic PC style mouse, that they have been trained on since elementary school will simplify the learning process, allow my students with limited motor function to participate as well as those without limits, and enable us to make better use of programs that require students to be able to grab and move pieces with precision.
