  • iPads for Communication!!

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

My students are doing so well using their iPads to engage with staff and peers. One amazing benefit of having extra technology available is that I can communicate with them in the same way they do. Modeling this is huge.Previously, I would have to borrow their iPad to use, which is like taking their voice away. It also allows other, verbal students, to communicate in their classmates method.

Another added benefit to having extra iPad access is that we can utilize it for games and activities to go along with their communication apps on a separate iPad. This keeps their playtime and communication separate which aids in them learning the importance of communicating while motivated during those super fun activities!

We have a student who has started blossoming with their language, and being able to use language in moment when they are upset and therefore avoiding some negative behaviors is such a huge benefit to their well being (and those around them). It is also amazing to have cases and straps that allow for communication device to be carried easily!”

    With gratitude,

  • Kindles to Fire Up Reading!

    Funded Mar 8, 2018

When the packages arrived, my students were so excited to help open them and see what was inside. We first opened the seat cushions. They all helped to inflate them and they are an excellent resource for students who are fidgety. Now that these are readily accessible, students can just grab them independently and are starting to recognize (on their own!!) when they need them and why. That is huge!!

The Kindles are AMAZING. The students know a lot about them and are helping me learn about implementing them. But the bottom line is they bring a new excitement to reading and I am able to get up to date materials for them. Any extra time spent reading is valuable, so when students finish an assignment or have "free time" it is a great way to get extra reading done. It is hard to instill a love of reading in students, but these certainly have helped students who are very low readers become more interested due to the wide variety of topics at their level.

When students don't have a lot, getting these items is just amazing to watch! Thank you so much for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Middle School Speech Therapy Materials!

    Funded Jun 19, 2018

These new materials have added so much more variety to students activities. Students with disabilities, especially at this older middle school age, really struggle to engage and finding great activity books really make it more fun and planning easier for me.

Getting games that reinforce strategies we are learning and practicing is great because it lets the student have fun while learning, and they barely know it. They enjoy some healthy competition between small team in our groups. These are awesome to have.

Thank you so much for this contribution to my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

My students all have disabilities and struggle with language, reading, and writing falling below grade-level in testing areas. This makes it difficult for them to keep up in a typical class. It is important for them to have technology that help them be successful. Having access to Kindle Fire's would help them have more time on reading and support their reading skills through fun and interactive games. Many also struggle with focus, attention, and have diagnoses of ADD or ADHD. Having a variety of seating available will help with their ability to sustain focus on lessons in the classroom. The seat cushions and special chair will allow opportunities for movement breaks to be included during lessons. These have been proven to help students with ADHD to focus for longer periods of time. Students will use these Kindle Fires during direct therapy and instruction time to increase skills and confidence in the classroom to try and help them become closer to grade-level peers. My students often need concrete and direct examples to activate their background knowledge during reading as they have very limited personal experiences to relate from. Using technology like the Kindle would allow the students to research and make their own connections in real time during lessons, as opposed to me taking breaks to show them examples on my computer.
