Adding this new laptop for our programmers, will allow our FIRST Robotics Team to: • Engage more students in the programming and electronics process. These are skills that have applications far beyond robotics. Students who have this experience and understanding can apply their skills in a wide range of careers, as well as in their day-to-day lives. • Inspire more students to learn to code. This is a highly desirable 21st century skill set which will serve our students well, no matter their ultimate career path. Having an understanding of coding, including the logic underpinning successful computer code, will serve our students well as they move from high school to college or careers. • Provide more opportunities to test and develop programming skills. The team has come to recognize that the ability to test coding choices side-by-side with the development of mechanical robot features has the potential to greatly improve the overall design and performance of the robot. It also encourages students who are developing and integrating physical components of the robot to collaborate with the coding team to increase effectiveness and interdisciplinary understanding and awareness.
