  • Recording Headsets Para Clase de AP Español

    Funded Apr 8, 2018

My students and I want to thank every single donor who helped us get our headsets. As a language class, we use headsets on a regular basis. Our college level class takes an important exam at the end of the school year that rewards our students with college credit if they pass the exam. In order to take a portion of this exam and to prepare for the exam, students need special headsets with microphones. It would be impossible to take the exam without these headsets.

Last year, when I began teaching this course, I knew our school library had a class set of headsets. Knowing that the materials were ready for us to use was wonderful because it was a less worry for me. However, when we did our first practice recording, I realized that the available headsets were out very out dated and there was not enough for a whole class. After our first practice, I decided to create this project and with the help of you all it became a reality.

All three AP Spanish Language and Culture classes in our school utilized these headsets a lot throughout second semester and the impact was shown when we got our exam results in the summer. 99% of the students who took the exam successfully passed and now have college credit. The donation you contributed truly made a difference for the future of our wonderful student's lives. Once, again THANK YOU very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Valdez

  • Printer Para La Clase de Español

    Funded Mar 25, 2018

I will like to thank all the donors who helped my class get a new an reliable printer. Our Spanish class works on a lot of hands-on projects. Many of the projects require students to print information or images from the Internet. Also, our college level AP Spanish Language and Culture class prepare for college by writing formal essays. These essays are written on the computer and then printed.

Before having our class printer, students had to rely on either printing at the library or at home if they had their own printer. However, despite living in Silicon Valley many of our students do not have access to a computer/printer at home. Without access to a printer at home, students used to rely on the printer in our school library that would often be out of service. I decided to begin this project when a set of essays were due and students were not able to submit them because our school printer was down. Therefore, I extended the due date in order for them to be able to go to the public library and print. I had very generous students who printed for other friends in their class who were not able to go to the library.

The printer has helped my students more than what I had expected. They are able to print all the work needed for our class and help goes beyond that. Since students know how reliable our printer now is, they come during lunch and break to print for their other classes too.

On behalf of all of my students, I want to say THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Valdez

Many of my students challenge submitting their school work because they do not have a printer at home. Also, it is not uncommon to have our school printer out of service. This issue is faced by many students almost on a weekly basis. Moreover, when the school printer works, it only prints in black/white and students have to spend additional time coloring their images. I teach in a Title I school where having access to pencils and highlighters is a struggle. My students do many hands-on projects that require them to have access to a computer and a printer for their projects.
