Middle school students love to work in groups to help each other and learn from their peers. Together in collaborative learning groups, students will persevere to solve involved math problems. Students will use the flip chart paper and markers to create a poster that shows their solutions and strategy to solve their assigned question. Then present their solutions and posters to their classmates. They get to be teachers for the day! To facilitate their presentation, the use of a poster will help guide their description and create the visual needed to demonstrate to their peers how to solve the problem. Through this activity students will develop their peer to peer communication skills as well as presentation and public speaking abilities & enrich their problem solving and math proficiency. All these materials will help reinforce the math topics being taught as well as encourage them to develop life long collaborative skills. The graph lined flip chart paper is great for ratios and coordinate plane questions! The bold colored markers will make their posters easier to read. I can't wait to be able to implement this student centered learning opportunity for my class.
