  • Learning With LEGO!

    Funded Oct 16, 2019

    My students love the LEGOs you donated to our class and school. They beg me to let them build together. Your donation has helped my students work collaboratively together. They have been able to experiment with different concepts like push/pull and sink/float. They have also improved their fine motor skills and building skills. Other kindergarten and first grade classes have begun to use the LEGO Steam Park sets, as well. This has allowed students with special needs to work with their general education peers. It's a wonderful thing to see!”

  • We Need a New Rug!

    Two days before my new, clean rug came, my students were reading in small goups on our disgusting, old rug. As I walked by, one of them raised his hand and exclaimed, "This rug stinks!"

    I looked at him and said, "I know it does....But guess what? We are getting a brand new rug!"

    With wonder and amazement, my students asked question after question after question.''How?"......"When?" ......"Why?" When our new rug came, the students were so excited that they jumped up and down with joy.

    We use our clean rug constantly. Everyday, we start our day sitting in a circle welcoming one another. We talk about our goals and desires for the day. During reading time, students are able to read without being scared of the nasty smell. After lunch, I read a story to them, and they each have their own rug square to sit in. At the end of the day, students are able to play cooperatively and learn social skills.

Despite numerous cleanings, our current rug remains dirty, smelly, and old! We use the rug daily to learn social skills lessons, discuss a teacher-read book, play together, and read to our friends. Unfortunately, our current rug is gross. We deserve a rug that is cozy and inviting! One of my students’ favorite activities is reading. With a clean, cozy rug, they will be able to read to one another. My students will become better readers. Furthermore, my students will be able to engage in important social skills activities and play on a clean area. This is key to their success in life!
