Preschoolers come to our school with various backgrounds and experiences. Sometimes they do not know the vocabulary to express themselves and require social/emotional support. When a child suffers trauma, it impedes them from being able to learn in the classroom. Often times it is difficult to talk to preschoolers about sensitive topics like safe and unsafe touching. It is important to provide preventative support and not wait until a crisis occurs. "Your Body Belongs to Me" is a book that helps explain safe and unsafe touch and it is okay for them to say no if they do not want a hug and still be friends. In order to provide visual support to our special education students and English Language Learners, we also need dolls that resemble our hispanic community.
