The students in my Kindergarten class were deeply affected by the Iowa floods of 2008. The majority lost their homes and most, if not all, of their belongings. Our school was flooded, and remained closed for the 2008-2009 school year while it was repaired. The challenges these children have overcome, and those they continue to face, are enormous. Any sense of having a place to belong greatly impacts these students' self esteem and sense that there are people and places they can go to feel safe and secure.

About my class
