Confidence In Oneself Is The First Step To Learning
Funded Aug 9, 2022The donations of books that have lessons of inclusion, the importance of being true to yourself, and how to overcome difficulties has been a huge part of our read alouds this fall semester. After hearing them read aloud, my students then have the chance to reread these books, when they are struggling with difficult times, reminding themselves that they are capable of anything they put their minds to! My second grade students have also deeply enjoyed learning at their preferred learning spot with some built in movement and flexibility.”

Funded Aug 26, 2020This year has been a challenge like no other. We are fortunate enough to be primarily "in person" in my first and second grade classroom. However, distancing is a big concern. Thanks to all of your generous donation, I am able to have my students learn around the room - so less students are at each table. While I thought this may work, we needed some tools to make a safe and comfortable work area. The foam spots and lap desks, give students that. The small dots are used when we are all at the carpet to visually show students the distance that they need to be from one another. Students love to work in these new areas and feel comfortable while distancing.”

Innovation Taken to the Next Level!
Funded May 10, 2018Incorporating technology into our every day learning has been an amazing opportunity. My students are learning to use digital citizenship, while posting their learning success. They use the Ipad stands, so that the quality of their videos and photos is improved. When others are viewing their work, they have a much better view of what is happening and the students can use their hands for other work. The Osmo and Bloxels have enhanced their problem solving and creativity. All of these are life long skills and my students are developing them at age seven, AMAZING!”

Funded Feb 20, 2018I cannot explain the overwhelming joy of my students when they shared in opening the packages that came from our Donors' Choose Project. They line I heard over and over was "It's like Christmas!!" However, the truth is that all of the packages were most likely, much more than any of my students have seen on Christmas, and from donors, was amazing to them. The impact of this alone was an important life lesson, they were excited to jump right in and use the supplies, but they were also excited to thank the generous donors.
Over the past few months, my students have used the many building blocks to build, create, and show their engineering skills all of which have improved through time with hands on activities. However, this project has also fostered higher level problem solving, grit (especially when something doesn't go well the first, or subsequent tries), communication skills, and collaboration with peers they may not generally pair up with. These are more life long skills that my students will continue to develop as we use the products from this project.
One of their favorite days was when we used all of our supplies to build Leprechaun Traps - they used the Ozobots as lures to a larger trap, they built, tried, and tweaked their projects to not only capture a Leprechaun but have the ability to keep him/her in their trap. Their creations were innovative and well thought out. They then used the Pop Phones to be able to record their traps and explain their projects without picking up all the background noise of the classroom. Finally they posted their work on SeeSaw, an online educational posting site where others in the class can view and comment on their work. Parents also can see a day in their child's classroom by viewing their work.
We use the tools at least once a week for free exploration. However the Ozobots will be used in the upcoming weeks to retell stories the students are reading. I am excited to see a story come to life for others through technology.
Thanks alone cannot express what contributing to our classroom has done for my students.”

Mrs. Frierdich
