  • Writing out loud

    Funded Sep 18, 2019

Thank you so much for the donations! My students have already started using the markers! The students have been able to use the dry erase markers on their new desks that came with dry erase surfaces to work out their math problems. The students love it and are excited to come to math to use the materials! The students will answer independent questions themselves by writing out the work so they can understand it better, and then they will share their ideas and strategies with fellow classmates who either solved the problems the way they did or offered a new way to arrive at the answer. the discussions the students are having after they have shown all of their work is incredible! We cannot thank you enough for your generous donations to our classroom!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Calvanico

  • Computing Real Life

    Funded Mar 25, 2019

Thank you so much for your donations to this project! My students are beyond excited to be able to have the materials needed to do our Algebra 1 projects with the correct calculators. The students rely on these calculators, when we find regression lines, as well as a lot of the statistics that we cover. Doing these types of calculations by hand is a tedious process, and having the right tools allows the students to be able to focus on understanding higher level concepts while the calculator does the heavy lifting! Thank you for supporting this project it means to me and my students! One day these students will go out into the work force as the new mathematicians that calculate all of the worlds statistics ! They have so much potential and now you have helped to give them the tools they need to achieve even higher goals!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Calvanico

  • Writing Out Loud- Showing Ideas on Our Desks.

    Funded Dec 14, 2018

My students and I greatly appreciate the generous donations made to this project. It has positively impacted my students learning as well as my ability to help the students understand the mathematical concepts. The students were very excited to learn of the donations and that our project was fully funded. They anxiously awaited the arrival of the markers and couldn't wait to use them. The students use the markers everyday.

Students are currently learning algebraic equations that require a lot of work to be written in order to isolate a variable and solve for it. Students needed to find one variable in a two step equation where the variable started on one side and then on both sides of the equal sign ( we call it the river!) Students are excited to write on our new desks that have white board on them, and are showing more work than ever before and having a higher level of understanding of the material. The markers are directly helping me, because they are enabling me to show students what I am trying to help them with rather than just describing the method. I am able to give individual attention to each student and write exactly what each student needs individually. I am able to differentiate more by writing individually for each student what they need.

My students and I are very grateful for the dry erase markers. They have been helping us tremendously in the classroom, and will continue to do so in the coming months when we take on systems of equations as well as various geometry topics. Thank you to all of the donors that made this possible for our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Calvanico

This classroom project was brought to life by Someone Who Cares and 6 other donors.
Students will work together to solve math problems on their desktops ( that are white boards) and on paddles that they can hold up to share their answers. Students help each other to check their classmates work and fix mistakes. They enjoy writing out their work on the desks and show all the needed calculations that allow them to reach the desired answer. It was inspiring to watch how students will help each other by critiquing each others work. Students find a sense of confidence in their work and are proud of the work they have collectively done. Participation in the classroom is enhanced by these tools.
