A Makerspace will allow my students to ignite their creativity, take brain breaks, and push their learning to the next level. Our students will use this space to create, collaborate, think critically and communicate while they plan, design, and build projects based on the science standards. I want this space to be a fun area where my students feel comfortable making mistakes, corrections, and ultimately wonderful creations. The LEGO set, Brain Builders, and Mental BLOX that I have chosen will allow my students to create book settings and different architectural builds. The "sea" geometry set will be used in the building process and different math lessons since polygons are a 3rd-grade standard. I have also chosen some storage bins to help with organization. These items will give my students every possible opportunity to plan, design, and build solutions to real-world problems! They are so excited! These items can also be integrated into our reading and math curriculum for more hands-on learning as well. Amid COVID-19, I have noticed more of a need for hands-on, active learning. During distance learning, the students can take as many breaks as needed, whereas, in an in-person setting, it is much more structured. These items will allow my students to be moving and playing while still learning.
