  • Bundle Up in Style!

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

Thank you so much for donating to this project. Although this project may not have been for equipment, the sentiment is not lost on these students. Being able to allow students to have a hat and gloves of their choosing, especially during these very cold weeks in New York put so many smiles on the students faces.

One specific moment that stands out to me was when a student, who already had a hat from home but didn't love it because it was a hand-me-down from her brother, got to pick out a matching set of hats and gloves of her favorite color. She chose a nice cream color and was so proud that now she doesn't have to wear the one her brother gave her.

Many of the families were also grateful because they know how often students lose their belongings at home and school, so to have an extra pair or their very own first pair to keep them warm from the cold and wind was great to see!”

  • Brrr! Baby It's Cold Outside!

    Funded Nov 13, 2023

From the bottom of my heart and from my students I want to say THANK YOU for the donations that you made to get all students the warm hat and gloves and some hygiene supplies they need to keep them healthy and safe this winter season. My students loved being able to pick out their favorite color hat and gloves to take home and even wear home, especially since some cannot always afford winter apparel. When they first saw me packaging the Hygiene Packages they were curious but when I went around to each class and explained to them what they were getting and why they were getting these materials they were so thankful and happy.

Months later I am still seeing students come to school bundled up with their hat and gloves with big smiles on their faces. This whole experience has taught me that even the smallest gift can brighten a students life and bring them a positive experience!”

  • Advance & Elevate Our Gym Experience!

    Funded Oct 12, 2023

My students have been so thrilled to see the new equipment such as bean bags with letters on it and hula hoops. The older equipment we had was falling apart, and although students never complained, I felt the need to let them experience something new for once.

With the new equipment my students are now playing different movement games and sports and using the bean bags to spell out sight-words and the hula-hoops and balls have been a great addition to utilize during recess.

My plan for the future is to not only let my students play with these new toys and equipment but to continue to spoil them even more by creating new projects for even more equipment; opening the door to new opportunities for my students and seeing them thrive!”

  • 100 Days Brighter

    Funded Feb 1, 2023

The supplies received for our 100 Days Brighter project truly made an impact on students. Celebrating the 100th day of school is such a monumental moment for elementary students but I saw first hand how walking into school and seeing all of the fun lights created core memories for our students. Faces lit up just as bright as the lights did when students walked into school and even got the energy going during our giant dance celebration in the dark! We have left some of the lights up for students to look at during the school day to create a calming but fun setting, and improving student attendance because they WANT to come into school and see all the fun things we are planning for them.”

  • Sittin` Spots

    Funded Oct 24, 2021

The new resources, poly spots, are extremely helpful. Not only are these poly spots more durable that spots we have had in the past, but they are cleaner and brighter too. The students were super ecstatic when they saw they new spots to sit on during outdoor gym because they were bright and shiny. Our old poly spots were made from a different material and they would easily rip or students would crack pieces off because they were so old, but with the new spots that is not the case. Students look forward to coming into Phys.Ed class and having their own clean, bright colored, poly spot to sit on while they are hearing the beginning of the lessons instructions.”

  • Stacking Our Way to Success!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you so much for the generous donation in which we were able to get students a class set of cup-stacking cups and mats with timers. The students really enjoyed having colorful cups that were not cracked and broken as well as stack mats and timers. The stack mats helped to drown out the sometimes loud sounds of students slamming cups on the desks from stacking so fast but also taught students to share and take turns. Because there were only six mats, students learned how to take turns sharing but also to cheer each other on while it was not their turn. The timers motivated students to get better while also giving them a visual to speed up the process and show the final results. When students first saw the new case of cups they were excited! Each student had their own set of cups and did not have to share, giving them more individual time and practice working on their fine motor skills, motor planning, and hand-eye coordination.

Students improved their skills that will help them in future units such as basketball, baseball, and juggling.”

    With gratitude,

  • Future Hoopsters!

    Funded Oct 4, 2021

In my past 4 years of teaching at P.S 205, students would always ask and beg to play basketball. It is one sport that many children actually know and understand because they see it on the television at home or see older kids play it in the neighborhood. Last year I received basketballs and because we had smaller classes due to remote learning, I was able to try and put together a basketball unit. Our only problem was that we did not have physical hoops to utilize. We would shoot the basketball through a hula-hoop that I would hold up or to a target on the wall. Now, the students actually have bright colored hoops with backboards to increase accuracy to shoot the ball in. They are so excited and are really enjoying this unit now and feel like some of the older kids in the neighborhood or like Lebron James in Space Jam. When they first saw the materials they were so excited and screamed with happiness.

Thank you so much for helping this project come to life!”

  • Drop and Give Me ZEN.

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Thank you so much for contributing to the equipment needed for this project. Normally, students would do our Yoga unit on their class carpet/meeting area, but because of COVID regulations we need to be spread out and all classroom rugs were removed. Instead of doing Yoga on the slippery and cold floor, students are now able to be proud and confident doing these stretched on their own personal Yoga mat for the entire class period, without worrying about having room on the rug area.

When the students first saw the new yoga mats, some were confused and some were amazed. Those who were confused was due to lack of knowledge of Yoga in general and that specific equipment was involved when doing yoga. Whenever I introduce new equipment they are usually shocked and happy thought because they are seeing a new "toy" for the first time and they can't wait to try it.

Moving forward after introducing this unit and giving them the tools to stretch and breathe properly, students will then get to use these techniques and strategies at home either as a new hobby or when they are feeling stressed, sad, overwhelmed, etc. I am excited to open this new outlet up to them and watch them flourish.”

  • Witness the Fitness!

    Funded Oct 18, 2019

The new pedometers are working wonders for the students! They are able to clip the gadgets onto their waistband or sneakers and measure their steps throughout the 50 minutes of physical education class. One specific moment that sticks out to me while the students wore these pedometers was when a kindergartner made the connection between the different types of activity in correlation with the steps they took. They noticed that during our Yoga unit, the number of steps was significantly lower than when we did our dancing unit.

My students are always in awe when I bring in new equipment, or just equipment/activities they have never experienced before. When I first brought the pedometers in, my students were confused. They had never seen these instruments before and when they typically think if phys. ed class they think of soccer balls, baseball equipment, or sports activities. It's great to expand their knowledge of the world of physical activity.

For the future, I would like to build on these lessons by trying to beat their personal steps every class. Students will create a goal they want to reach by the end of the school year and see if they can obtain that personal goal.”

    Ms. Schmier

At our school, students have never had a physical education class before. In the past, their first experience with physical education class was in 2nd grade. This year will be the Kindergarten and first grades first year being active. This equipment is crucial to broadening the students ideas of fun physical activity and opens a world of new sports up to them. This t-ball equipment will help students with hand-eye coordination, manipulation of a long-handled implement, and gross-motor skills. The kids will be introduced to this sport and may spark an interest to play in college when they get older.
