Many of the students in my classroom are hyperactive or have difficulty focusing during instruction due to their disability. Students are frequently fidgeting, getting up out of their seat, and getting distracted by the close proximity of other students at their tables. These distractions are causing some students to fall behind. With flexible seating options, students are given an opportunity to feel more comfortable in the classroom environment, which in return, will result in more attention on instructional lessons. The lack of resources in a school should not be the reason that students with disabilities are falling behind. Our class has had a trial with some flexible seating and it has unbelievably changed the work produced by the students and want to make these resources available to all the students in the class who can use these supports. This grant will help our class get closer to reaching our academic goals and hopefully begin to close the academic gap that these students face.
